So We’re Back!

So we’re back! After six months of no airsoft games due to the election “Gun Ban” we’re back to playing our beloved sport. I can’t believe how the six month lay-off rusted my AEG from its gun barrel to its trigger. Anyway, it would take another six years for the “Election Gun Ban” to take effect again. Yay!!!

But here’s another thing – it’s July and it is the start of the rainy season. Too bad for our team, our game sites are swamped with rain water. Though it looks like a real Vietnam scenario if you look around, how can you play in a swampy area with lots of insects and critters around? Snakes? Yes snakes, it’s abundant here in our country. Ranging from those cute little ones to the big and venomous constrictors. Arghh.. Bad luck? You may say that, but we see ourselves as real Recons, and the real recon usually inserts itself in areas (under any condition) wherein no one suspects they are there. Simply to say, we can still play at our swampy game sites.  Can we?  That remains to be seen.

Philippine 2010 Election Gun Ban Starts

The chief of the Philippine Police reminded the public that airsoft guns or gun replicas have been included in the election period’s gun ban starting January 10, 2010, until June 09, 2010.

Director Roberto Rosales, chief of the The National Capital Region Police Office, urged airsoft gun owners and enthusiasts, in a statement, to refrain from carrying their guns so as not to violate Commission on Elections Resolution 8714, which included airsoft guns and gun replicas in the list of items covered by the gun ban.

Battle For The Hearts And Minds – Danfung Dennis

On July 2nd, 2009, 4000 US Marines of the 2nd Marine Expeditionary Brigade launched a major helicopter assault into an insurgent stronghold in the Helmand River Valley in southern Afghanistan to break a military stalemate that had been reached with the Taliban.

Independent filmmaker Danfung Dennis was embedded with Echo Company, 2nd Battalion, 8th Marine Company, as they were dropped 18km behind enemy lines to seize a key bridge. Within a few hours of landing, fierce fighting erupts and continues for the next three days, in which Lance Corporal Charles Sharp, from Adairsville, Georgia was was shot and killed by a Taliban fighter. After the initial fighting, the Marines search for the insurgents that killed Lance Corporal Sharp. Frustration sets in as the Marines try to fight a ghost like enemy and IED’s cut them off from resupply. The Marines objective is to secure and protect the population, but the Afghan villagers complain that the fighting has driven them into desert, bombing has destroyed their homes, and intrusive raids disrespect their culture. Trying to balance their roles between warriors and statesmen, the Marines struggle to win the hearts and minds of the Afghan people.

The footage was shot on a custom built rig, using a Canon 5D Mark II, 24-70 f/2.8 L lens, Sennheiser ME-66 and G2 wireless system, Singh-Ray variable ND filter, and Beachtek 2XAs mounted on a Glidecam 2000 HD with custom made aluminum ‘wings.’

Death Of The Chinese Clones

I’ve been hearing news lately that the Chinese government has stopped “all” production of airsoft guns. I thought they were only rumors until I saw this.

Death Of The Chinese Clones

“Shenzhen Customs officers destroy replica guns in the warehouse of its Huizhou anti-smuggling office Thursday. About 2,790 guns and 1,500 kilograms of spare parts were destroyed, Customs officials said Friday. The popularity of field warfare games has contributed to increased demand for replica guns in the domestic market, which has led to an increase in replica gun smuggling cases, officials said. The guns resemble the real thing in color, weight, size and quality, and as such can be used by criminals to threaten victims in robberies and muggings. So far nearly 12,000 smuggled replica guns and spare parts have been seized by the Customs this year.” (from Shenzhen Daily)

Is this the beginning of the end for Chinese-made airsoft guns?
